Mike Samson's Garfield County roots run deep. Born in Glenwood Springs and raised in Rifle, he is a graduate of Rifle High School. He has also earned degrees from Brigham Young University (BA) and Western Colorado University (MA).

 

Mike spent 25 years teaching and coaching in the Garfield RE-2 School District, culminating in a tenure as a high school administrator. Mike continued his service to Garfield County when he was elected to the Board of County Commissioners in 2008. Mike has earned four terms in office based on his commitment to cultivating our community through listening and dialogue. He believes this responsiveness is key to stewarding the public trust.

 

Family is central to Mike's life. Married to Janet for 46 years, they have raised seven adult children and are proud grandparents of many more. Their lives are inextricably linked to this community, and they are deeply grateful for everything their neighbors have done to help them make Garfield County a thriving home.

 

Knowing these things about Mike makes his "why" in public service simple to understand. Mike has a genuine passion for helping the people of Garfield County. He believes in the power of community and the importance of working together. He feels obligated to help us carry forward a vision of Garfield County as an even better place to live, work, and play.
